Record April at Chopin Airport: nearly 1.59 million passengers and new amenities

Exactly 1,588,901 passengers were handled in April, representing an 8.6% increase compared to April 2019. The heaviest traffic was recorded on April 26, when the airport handled 62,834 people. Since the beginning of 2024, 5,891,799 passengers have passed through the airport.
New amenities for passengers
The increase in airport traffic has led to improvements in passenger amenities. In May, new drinking water fountains were put into use and existing ones were modernized. There are currently seven such devices, and soon there will be eight, located in the Schengen and non-Schengen zones. They allow for free refilling of bottles, which contributes to reducing plastic consumption.
Airport spokeswoman Anna Dermont emphasized that passengers appreciate the possibility of refilling bottles with drinking water free of charge.
Charter traffic and scheduled flights
This year, the airport has handled over 540 thousand charter passengers, an increase of 42% compared to 2019. The most popular charter destinations are: Marsa Alam, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, Antalya and Fuerteventura.
In scheduled traffic, the most frequently chosen destinations were London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Dubai. In April, the airport handled over 1 million passengers in the Schengen zone and 505 thousand in the non-Schengen zone. Transfer passengers account for 25% of the total. Since the beginning of the year, over 34.7 tons of cargo have been handled, of which 8.5 tons in April.
